Oneida, NY – Oneida Healthcare’s hospital received an “A’ rating in the latest Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades for its efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest standards in the U.S. The most recent spring grade ranks Oneida Healthcare as one of the eight safest hospitals in all of New York State and they represent the only hospital to receive an “A” in Madison and Oneida County. This is Oneida Healthcare’s fourth consecutive A grade for patient safety.
The Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Grade assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections, and other harms among patients in their care. “This is the only national rating of how well hospitals protect patients from preventable harm and death, such as medical errors, infections, and injuries,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Receiving an ‘A’ Safety Grade means a hospital is among the best in the country for preventing these terrible problems and putting their patients first, 24 hours a day.” Only 750 hospitals nationally were awarded an ‘A’ for efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S.
“Our focus is and will continue to be to provide high quality, safe care, ensuring that each patient is always satisfied with the care we provide them,” said Gene Morreale, President and CEO at Oneida Healthcare. “Knowing that patients who receive care here receive it as defined by Leapfrog as A level care is immensely rewarding for our staff. After all, that is the reason we are here.” The Leapfrog Group releases hospital safety grades bi-annually. Oneida Healthcare has received an A grade four consecutive times over the past two years. “The members of the Oneida Healthcare team adhere to our organizational commitments that drive their performance, the end result being exceptional care,” Morreale added.
Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to approximately 2,500 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
