Health Care Auxilian Day
Oneida, NY – Last week, Governor Andrew Cuomo proclaimed Monday, May 18, 2020 as Health Care Auxilian Day to recognize auxiliary community members and their valuable role in supporting hospitals and health systems across New York State.
The Oneida Health Auxiliary has been supporting patient and resident care in our community since 1915. Over the years, they have hosted a number of events that include Light a Light for Love, follies, fashion shows, plays, no-bake bake sales, and other fundraising events to fulfill their mission of supporting the needs of the hospital, staff, residents, and patients of our community.
“We help where it’s needed,” said Marty Mallery, Oneida Health Auxiliary Board President. “We have great board members who give 100 percent of themselves to make our projects beneficial to the hospital and extended care. We have numerous projects throughout the year to raise money for equipment that is needed and unfortunately not in the hospital budget.”
All funds raised by the Auxiliary go directly to meet the needs of patients and residents. In the past few years the Auxiliary has allocated several thousand dollars to purchase items including recliners for patient/resident rooms, a portable cardiac monitor for the ED, an oximetry unit for the ICU, bariatric chairs for Radiology patients and many other items that benefit patient care. The Auxiliary also provides knitted hats for newborns, hand sewn teddy bears for pediatric patients, walker and wheelchair bags for ECF residents as well as comfort pillows for surgical patients.
“We are very fortunate to have an active group of community members on our Auxiliary who share a singular vision with us for providing exceptional care, always,” said Gene Morreale, President and CEO at Oneida Health. “During this unprecedented time, the value they provide to our community is only magnified. We at Oneida Health fully support the Governor’s proclamation of a day of recognition for these valued community members.”
